Street Shooting in Cuenca, Ecuador with Julia Dean

January 27 – February 2, 2013

$1995

Join us on the streets of Cuenca, Ecuador and learn how to shoot candidly, quickly, and with purpose. Julia’s street shooting workshops are set up in the same way with each destination workshop. Shooting time. Critiques. Slideshows of work by historic and contemporary street shooters. Lectures about shooting on the street and evenings with street shooters from the city that you are in.

The workshop begins Sunday, January 27th at 6:00 pm for a cocktail party and orientation. We’ll meet and go over the week’s itinerary and the list of special guests who will be spending evenings with us.

Each day the lecture will take place between 10 am – 12 pm in a conference room at a designated hotel.  Each evening, we will meet in that same conference room for critiques and special guest presentations. In between, you’ll be shooting specific assignments in specific locations, on the streets. On Friday evening, the workshop will end with a cocktail party and slideshow of the participants’ work.

Daily lectures will include information on:
~ the laws and ethics of shooting on the street
~ how to shot candidly
~ how to capture the “decisive moment”
~ how to anticipate the future
~ when to or when not to talk to someone
~ how to approach people
~ how to shoot from the hip
~ equipment choices
~ lens selection
~ zone focusing
~ the difference between seeing in black and white and seeing in color
~ black & white conversion
~ how to tell a story with a single image
~ how to be brave but not brazen

Julia will also lecture daily about historic and contemporary street shooters from Paris, London, New York and around the world.
