Developed solely and independently by the Julia Dean Photo Workshops, the Julia Dean Certificate Program* offers an opportunity for students seeking a focused and comprehensive course of study. All certificate programs are good for 18 months from date of enrollment and tuition** must be paid in full when registering. Upon completion of the program students will be awarded a certificate issued by the Julia Dean Photo Workshops.

Students can opt to choose among three different certificate programs. No application is necessary and students may enroll at any time throughout the year.

In order to satisfactorily complete each certificate, students must complete a total of 12 courses within 18 months. Time extensions may be allowed in certain situations, such as serious illness, and with the approval of the Julia Dean Photo Workshops.

All certificate students receive priority enrollment and are automatic Silver Members, thereby entitling them to numerous perks and benefits such as placement on the Dean’s List, which includes: free passes to all guest lecture and speaking events, sneak-preview of the Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall workshop schedule, and invitation to all Julia Dean exhibits and special events. In addition, certificate students receive 15% off any core*** class, 5% off any Special Guest workshop, $200 credit towards a travel workshop, and an online exhibit on the Julia Dean website****. These benefits are good for 18 months from date of enrollment in the certificate program.

*  The Julia Dean Certificate Program is not an accredited program. Students looking to use the certificate to gain entrance or acceptance into an accredited program such as a university or college are encouraged to speak with the program’s counselors or advisors.

** Tuition is nonrefundable and nontransferable.

*** Core classes are defined as any class other than Special Guests, Photos Safaris, One-Week Intensives and Travel Workshops. Certain restrictions may apply.

**** Students may be required to pay for costs associated with uploading his or her portfolio to the Julia Dean website such as image scanning fees or web design fees.

  • Basic Photography I: Film & Digital Camera Fundamentals
  • Basic Photography II: Diving into Digital
  • Basic Photography III: Advanced Digital
  • Intermediate Photography: Finding Your Vision
  • The Crash Flash Course
  • Introduction to Adobe Photoshop

Electives (5)

Shel Mosk

Students must choose five electives in any or all of the categories below, with a limit of one Special Guest. (Excludes Photo Safaris, Travel Workshops and One-Week Intensives*. Certain restrictions may apply.)

  • Photography & Digital Camera Fundamentals
  • Lighting & Portraiture
  • Alternative & Fine Art
  • Specialized Photography
  • Photoshop & Printing
  • Business of Photography
  • Special Guests (limit of one)

Tuition: $3995**

* One-Week Intensives are defined as classes running Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm each day.

** The applicable certificate fee covers all tuition and benefits except added course fees such as model fees, equipment fees, transportation fees, or any other associated fee listed along with the applicable workshop fee.

Lighting & Portraiture

Note: Students choosing to enroll in the “Lighting & Portraiture” certificate program must be proficient with their camera and possess basic knowledge of photography fundamentals.
