Gary Thompson
Gary Thompson's project, Witness, intuits the structure of dreams; that is, not reporting actual dreams, but constructing situations in which the interaction reflects an internal state, with all of the logical inconsistencies inherent in such an endeavor, and in which the image as a whole may contain the ineffable but significant understanding of what is sometimes found in dreams. "I want the viewer to have the same sense of wonder about the pictures as they may have had while driving a car at night on a dark road and half-seeing images fly by that were not readily identifiable."
Gary is from Parkton, MD, received a BFA from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, and an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. His work has been displayed in group shows nationally, most recently in OPTIONS 2005, the biennial exhibition of the Washington Project for the Arts/Corcoran. He has been the recipient of two Maryland State Arts Council grants.
