Shooting Actors’ Headshots in Los Angeles

© Mark Atteberry
Shooting an actor’s headshot is as much an art form as it is following a set of industry standards. In this fun, informative, one-day workshop participants will learn about shooting headshots and about the industry rules and trends. We will discuss how to start a headshot business, what equipment is needed, how much to charge, how to setup and light a typical session, and whether to use natural light or studio light. Students will also learn what the industry standards are for a typical headshot, how to find and work with a makeup artist, how to develop a style, how to build a professional portfolio, marketing strategies, and how to make a decent living as a headshot photographer. In addition, students will learn the secrets to catching an actor’s essence, getting the best performance out of every actor, how to “direct” an actor, and how to build lasting relationships with
talent agencies.
All participants should bring cameras, as this workshop culminates with a series of typical headshot sessions. Each student will get a chance to start their book and take a few headshots of working actors.
