How is shooting digital different from shooting film? We will answer this question and many more. This class will be an overview of the different digital backs available in the industry using the Hasselblad H2 camera system, Mamiya RZ, Hasselblad 503, and Mamiya 645AFD. We will introduce, compare and contrast the digital backs from Leaf, Phase One, and Imacon. We will cover the difference between a traditional film workflow and a digital workflow. This will include pre production, on-set, and post-production procedures with regard to file handling. We will also discuss what a digital technician’s job is, whether you need one, and how to hire the most qualified tech for your photo shoot. This class is for photographers who are trying to start shooting with medium format digital or for those currently shooting film and wanting to transition into digital photography.

Students completing this course are encouraged to pursue a greater knowledge of the digital back systems from Leaf and/or Phase One by enrolling in “Advanced Medium Format Digital Capture: Leaf System” or “Advanced Medium Forma Digital Capture: PhaseOne System.”
