The Intimate Portrait: Unveiling the Face--Behind the Mask

© Rose Eichenbaum
Capturing one’s essential nature and character while demonstrating the basic principals of photography, is the portrait photographer’s greatest challenge. In this six-week intensive workshop, open to all levels, students will learn techniques to unmask their subjects, and encourage them to reveal their true identity before the lens. Learn how to break the ice, gain trust, and establish a safe and comfortable environment so that your subject is willing and eager to project a natural and realistic self-image. Establishing good communication and a collaborative spirit is vital to the process, but equally important is the ability to produce a distinctive look, mood and setting that will manifest your subject’s unique personality and character traits. Students will learn how lighting, composition, cropping, perspective and most importantly intension: what you’re trying to say about your subject, contributes to the overall visual rendering.
This workshop will help both professionals and hobbyists shoot with greater confidence, skill, and artistry to produce portraits with soul and substance. Weekly assignments will be reviewed and sensitively critiqued. One session will be held on location for use of available light. Digital capture preferred---film okay. Please bring portfolio to the first meeting
