Expanding Photography in Southern California

A Natural Eye

At the heart of any good photograph is both the passion for the subject and your ability to uniquely capture it. Perhaps you love the outdoors yet find that your images keep looking like pretty postcards. Or perhaps you’ve been distracted by cameras, pixels, and software at the expense of building your vision. If so, join Eddie Soloway for an intense weekend of looking at the natural world with fresh new eyes. The workshop starts Friday evening with Eddie’s presentation, "Memories, Moons, and Imagination: Re-kindling a Passion for Photography." Then, over the next two days, we will strive to develop the ability of seeing with a natural eye, while surrounding our creative ideas with solid technical skills. Indoor and outdoor sessions will surround us with ideas on changing our perspectives and breaking out of the box, while fine-tuning technical thoughts will help elevate a good image into a memorable photograph. With Venice Beach as a backdrop, there will be a chance put these ideas into practice, followed by an informative critique on Sunday afternoon. The emphasis will be on surrounding the group with a lot of ideas and examples. Designed for photographers interested in shooting landscape or travel photography, this workshop will teach you how to create more powerful and compelling images of the natural world.

Eddie Soloway’s photographs (www.eddiesoloway.com) are the expression of his passion and commitment to the natural world. His eye has developed during a lifetime of exploring the earth’s wild places. Former positions in educational workshop design, wilderness program development, and custom fine photographic printing have further honed his expertise. In 1998, Eddie was the first recipient of the Excellence in Photographic Teaching Award presented by the Santa Fe Center for Photography. Today he divides his time between making fine-art prints, teaching, speaking on creativity and the photographic life, and furthering photographic publishing projects. His first book, One Thousand Moons, was published in the summer of 2004. An impassioned teacher, Eddie brings experiences in both nature and photography to his workshops.
