With the advent of new technology and a changing world, photographers are now becoming videographers of a new breed. It is no longer necessary to be carrying heavy gear, sound equipment, and other various supplies. Today still cameras have a video mode and thus can capture the moving world. Evident in this were the cell phone videos that caught the horrific Tsunami of the South East. Technologies role has now altered the way we see and view the world.

In this class we will learn how to shoot and edit “Digital Media” footage which can be shown as a theatrical release, or onto websites such as YouTube. Finished videos can also be emailed to clients, colleagues, friends and family. Using the simple but powerful program “iMovie,” we will produce powerful “Digital Media” projects On Saturday we will go out into the field and shoot still images as well as video footage for your multimedia project. We will learn to take that footage and input it into the iMovie program. We will get familiar with the pull down menus and time line and learn to set up the files for best resolution. We will go over transitions as well as special effects. On Sunday we will learn how to edit, cut clips, add sound (music), learn to burn a DVD through iDVD program, and be able to set up the project as a professional looking DVD.

Laurence Gartel (www.gartelmuseum.com) is considered the "Father" of Digital Art for over three decades. An early pioneer, Gartel worked with video guru Nam June Paik at Media Study/Buffalo in the early 70s. His works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Princeton Art Museum, Joan Whitney Payson Museum, Norton Museum, PS1, and in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of American History. His important early digital video experimentations have just been acquired by the Victoria and Albert (V&A) in London. Gartel, a pop culturist who taught Andy Warhol how to use the Amiga Computer, has worked on many exciting projects for Coca Cola, Philip Morris, Absolut Vodka, SWATCH, Walt Disney Company, Gibson Guitars, as well as for celebrities such as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, AC/DC, Versace, and many others.
