This six-week workshop is designed to help those already confident with their photography skills but need the next step in becoming a successful wedding photographer. Specifically, it is designed for photographers who want to understand and explore both the art and business of wedding photography. Important topics will be covered such as how to build a portfolio, how to promote and market one’s work, how to bid for a job and how to write contracts. The art of wedding photography is also explored such as the use of digital cameras, film cameras and formats, and when to use what for a specific effect. We will also explore how to deliver a presentation to a client and how to design an album.
During the workshop, students will have the opportunity to put the above mentioned discussions into practice. Weekly assignments will be provided with the goal of helping each participant take the first step toward starting a wedding photography business. These assignments will include: formulating a contract, creating a usable promotional piece, and designing an album. Furthermore, during two hands-on shooting sessions both in the studio and on location, students will be introduced to lighting techniques to create certain moods and will also learn the importance of anticipating and capturing a moment. Models will be provided and each student will have their worked critiqued during the ensuing class session.
Interested students should possess a basic knowledge of photography with the ability to shoot and process images.
