The Power of Color

Digital imaging is revolutionizing color photography and liberating color photographers in ways that have only been dreamed of. It is now possible to extend the range of color manipulation for photographers to levels that were previously only available to painters. There’s never been a better tool for controlling and exploring color than the computer.
This workshop, designed for anyone working with color on the computer, promises ways to work with color and harness its power for your personal expression. Developing two visions with one eye towards capturing realistic color and another eye toward enhancing color for a greater range of artistic expression, you will:
- master the superior control of manipulating color digitally
- develop a razor sharp eye for color accuracy
- gain a greater appreciation for the naturalistic palette of nature and color interaction in the real world
- manipulate color to enhance expression
- control color so that it doesn’t overpower but rather compliments the content of an image
- better understand the mechanics of human vision and how they influence our color perception
- learn about the practice and theory of the color sciences and color arts
- use color in new more powerful and sophisticated ways
- realize how black and white photographers can benefit from color theory
- clarify the relativistic nature of color
- better understand the subjective nature of color and your individual color biases and color preferences
- familiarize yourself with the symbolism attached to colors by various cultures
- find out why painters and photographers have a lot to learn from each other
- expand your appreciation for other artists’ use of color
- become alive to a world of color you never knew existed
